Strong reports from Germany indicate that Phoenix Reisen has canceled Maxim Gorkiy’s 2009 world cruise and that she will finish her last cruise for the company on 30 November 2008.
One of the most popular German-market cruise ships, the 24,220 GT, 650 passenger Maxim Gorkiy, built as the Hamburg in 1969, is one of the last steam turbine passenger ships operating. Due to her high fuel consumption, she has been especially hard-hit by recent increases in fuel costs.
An official announcement is expected shortly.
