Sea Cloud Hussar Set for 2009 Debut

Sea Cloud Cruises has announced that it is building a third sailing ship, Sea Cloud Hussar, for an autumn 2009 entry into service.

Currently being built at the Factoria de Naval Marin shipyard near Vigo, Spain, the company says Sea Cloud Hussar will be the largest full-rigged passenger tall ship ever built. At over 135 meters long and 17 meters in beam, the ship will be slightly larger in both dimensions than the current record-holder, Star ClippersRoyal Clipper. It’s unclear, however, how Sea Cloud Hussar will compare to the as-yet-unnamed new ship Star Clippers is planning for a spring 2010 debut, which that company also claims will be the world’s largest full-rigged sailing ship.
