Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd has announced a new cruise line aimed at the French market, CDF Croisières de France. The new company will begin operations in May 2008 with Bleu de France, currently Pullmantur Cruises‘ Holiday Dream. Originally built in 1982 as Hapag-Lloyd’s Europa, the ship was also with Star Cruises as SuperStar Aries before being bought by Pullmantur.
Before entering service with CDF, the ship will undergo a complete €30 million refit. According to Royal Caribbean, “The onboard experience of Bleu de France’s guests will be totally French, from cuisine to entertainment to decor. French will be the language used on the ship as well.”
The ship will initially operate Mediterranean cruises from Marseille, and reposition to La Romana, Dominican Republic for Caribbean Cruises in the winter 2008-2009 season.
