Louis Cruise Lines on Cruise Critic

Today Cruise Critic launched my corporate profile of Louis Cruise Lines, the fifth-biggest cruise operator in the world and yet one that seems to get very little media coverage.

You can read the article here.

  • Hey Doug,
Nice job, but the Italia was not built for Costa. She was ordered by Sunsarda, who went bankrupt before she was completed. The bank BNL then owned her and set up Crociere d’Oltremare to charter or sell the ship. The ship sailed a few cruises in Europe, before being chartered to Princess in 1967 - 1973. Costa first chartered her in 1974 and bought her in 1977. She sailed with Costa until being purchased by Ocean in 1983. I think she actually looked quite nice in the Princess Livery as the Princess Italia.

P.S. The Opera’s new name is Cristal

  • Hi Thad,

Thanks, I knew that but must have forgotten it when writing the Louis article :-o.

The “full story” a bit too in-depth to add to this article but I will have it corrected to include Princess and point out that Costa wasn’t the original owner or operator.

Also thanks for the heads-up on Opera’s new name - I’ll have that added too.

    Best,
    Doug
