Seabourn Odyssey Keel Laying

Yesterday (11 July), Seabourn Cruise Line and T. Mariotti laid the keel of Seabourn’s new flagship, Seabourn Odyssey, in Genoa.

Seabourn President and CEO Pamela Conover and Mariotti CEO Marco Bisagno placed newly minted US and Italian coins in the keel before it was welded to the ship’s first hull section.

The 32,000 GT Seabourn Odyssey will enter service in June 2009 and be the first newbuild for Seabourn in 20 years. From what I’ve seen she will probably be the most luxurious cruise ship ever built - unless Silversea’s newbuilds can beat her. (Odyssey will be very similar to that company’s Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper, albeit larger, newer and more luxurious.)

See here for a full press release and here for more information on Seabourn Odyssey from Seabourn.
